Ichiban Kasuga, a young recruit from a modest Tokyo-based yakuza family, agrees to spend 18 years in prison for a murder he did not commit. He serves his sentence without ever losing faith in his circle, but discovers on his release that no one was expecting him and that the clan has been wiped out by the man he admired most in the world.
Ichiban vows to uncover the truth behind this betrayal and take control of his life. In doing so, he gathers a group of outcasts to help him on his quest: Adachi, a fallen policeman, Nanba, a former nurse turned homeless, and Saeko, a hostess on her own mission. Together, they become embroiled in an underlying conflict in Yokohama and must act in unison to become, against all odds, the heroes of the story.
