Empire: Total War introduces revolutionary new gameplay options, including a true 3D naval combat engine. For the first time in a Total War game, you'll be able to intuitively command single ships or entire fleets on beautifully modelled seas with highly realistic weather effects that will play an important part in your glorious success...or your ignominious defeat. After drowning your enemy in cannonballs, approach to board, and lead your men into hand-to-hand combat on the decks of these immense ships.

What's more, Empire: Total War also improves on the famous 3D battles of the Total War series, as well as the campaign map. Real-time battles become more challenging with the addition of cannons and muskets, forcing players to find new formations and master new strategies as they come to grips with the increasingly important role of gunpowder in warfare. The campaign map, which for many players is the very heart of Total War, introduces a host of new and updated elements, including new trading, diplomacy and espionage systems; a redesigned interface; improved advisors; and an even wider scope, from the riches of India to the turbulence of Europe, and even including the untapped potential of the United States of America.
