Marvel's Avengers begins on A-Day, when Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow and Thor celebrate the opening of a new Avengers headquarters in San Francisco and the launch of their experimental energy-powered helicarrier. However, the day turns into a nightmare when a catastrophic accident destroys much of the city. The Avengers are blamed for the tragedy and split up. Five years later, with the superheroes outlawed, the world faces a terrible threat and the only hope of saving it is to bring Earth's greatest heroes together.
