The Alters is an ambitious sci-fi survival game with a unique twist. You play as Jan Dolski, the sole survivor of an expedition that crashed on a hostile planet. To survive, you need to form a new crew for your mobile base. Using a substance called Rapidium, you create alternative versions of Jan "THE ALTERS", each shaped by a different crucial decision taken in the protagonist's past.

Survival mechanics

To keep the mobile base running, you'll need to explore the planet's surface in search of valuable resources, such as metals and organic matter. However, venturing outside the safe haven carries the risk of exposing you and your alters to various deadly anomalies as well as the ever-present solar radiation. That's why you need to pay close attention to the game's day/night cycle and plan your daily activities wisely!

Stories with ramifications

Navigate a story rich in moral dilemmas and ramifications. Your choices will influence Jan's relationships with her alters, impacting on their journey and leading to multiple outcomes and endings.

Expand your base

The resources you collect can be used in different ways: create the items you need or expand your base with extra modules like the research lab or the social room. Sometimes you'll have to choose between creating items specifically for your alters and those that could advance the mission, such as anomaly detectors or radiation filters. The weight of each decision rests solely on your shoulders, as you'll never be able to satisfy everyone's needs.

Exploration

The planet is full of unique biomes and secrets, but there are also dangerous anomalies that can get in your way. While levitating rocks and supernatural distortions are immediately eye-catching, other singularities are invisible to the naked eye and require special tools to observe. In all cases, you need to be extremely careful or you risk immediate death, radiation or even the disintegration of space-time.
