Diplomacy is Not an Option lets you slip into the worn boots of a feudal lord. As always, circumstances force you to fight... always outnumbered. Build your walls, raise your armies and experience war on a whole new scale. More than TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND enemies assault the ramparts of your castle. You'll need to master engineering, economics and even magic if you think you can survive.

Your king is a fearsome and powerful leader. What's more, he's an arrogant pig. He loves to drink and generally enjoys life. But after the Treasury was drained and not even higher taxes could remedy the situation, it became clear that he couldn't continue his nonchalant lifestyle. A big problem, which is mainly yours, because the peasants, who don't like the increase in taxes and hunger, are revolting on your land. The king asks you to put down the rebellion and go to a faraway land to obtain gold. Rumour has it that there's one where there's tons of it. Will you do your sovereign's bidding and set off on an adventure to fill the palace coffers once again? Or will you join the violent rebel leader to bring the tyrant to justice? So many questions.... The only thing you can be sure of is that blood will spill no matter what. However, you can be sure that legions of archers, swordsmen, siege weapons, knights and many others will be at your side to help you achieve your goal.

Although ironic, the laws of physics are always extremely serious in Diplomacy Is Not An Option. Every arrow, catapult stone and skyward-thrusting enemy is faithfully modelled, creating a coherent, interactive battlefield. Just make sure your troops have towers to fire from and clear lines of sight, or your best-laid plans may be thwarted by your own fortifications. Consider your gates, lines of advance and retreat. Create zones of destruction and fallback positions. You'll need to play an active role in the battle to get the most out of your men.

Even under siege, never forget that your castle was built with the sweat of the peasantry. Defend your people and they will serve you well. Food can become scarce and your soldiers can starve on the battlefield. Build houses, bury corpses to prevent plague and nurse the sick when death threatens. If you don't look after your people, you could soon find yourself overwhelmed by some very unpleasant problems. Like empty stockpiles, unrepaired walls and empty barracks.

A functional army needs a sensible economic policy to support and feed it. Food, wood, stone, iron and gold are the foundations of your city's economy, and you'll need to keep a close eye on your supplies if you're going to take on an enemy lurking just in time to advance. Gather resources, choose your storage locations and plan your expansions and upgrades carefully. Enemies won't give up their land willingly, and unprotected civilian infrastructure will become a target for enemy incursions. Trade, via the impressive merchant airship, will bring emergency supplies to feed the men, or stones to rebuild the walls. Will you be able to strike the right balance between expansion and security?

If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. If you've inherited a cursed kingdom, why not master black magic? Strong castle walls will protect you from most ordinary threats, but in Diplomacy Is Not An Option, you're also fighting the undead. So why let them have a monopoly on magic? There's a dark tale of power contaminating and stirring the dead by taking over rebellious souls. On a more sober note, magic can also be used to create very large fireballs that fall on your enemies. Why not make the most of it? Build magical monuments, collect soul crystals and break into Homeric laughter as magical beams burn and tear through your enemies, or as you summon ghosts to hunt down stragglers.

The game has been designed with freedom at its core. Go beyond the campaign and crush your enemies as you see fit in Endless mode, Sandbox mode or Challenge mode. Develop your own strategies on randomly generated maps. Dash for the walls, build up large osts of cannon fodder or continue the game of growth supported by costly investments. It's up to you to find the style that gives you the most success.

As in real life, stupidity and greed are at the root of most problems, but here it's far too late to do anything about them. You have no recourse to resolve all this peacefully. At this stage: diplomacy is not an option!
