What is Blancpain GT Racing?
This type of racing is not as popular as its counterparts: Formula 1 and MotoGP, but it enjoys great popularity among those who are passionate about Grand Touring races.
The full title of the race is the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, and the competition takes its name from its main sponsor, luxury watch manufacturer Blancpain (Blancpain, based in Switzerland, is the oldest watch company in the world, having been founded in 1735). Their watches belong to personalities as diverse as Russian leader Vladimir Putin and American film star Brad Pitt.
Races in the series tend towards endurance racing, with differences between cars carefully assessed and tolerances or weightings made to equalise them. The aim is to give each driver the opportunity to win races on skill alone, rather than relying on a powerful, superior engine or design innovations.
Seven races to try
In the game, you have a choice of seven races, depending on what you want to try and how much time you have. The first races can be seen as a kind of training, where you'll need advanced skills, stamina and determination to cross the finish line:
Free training: learn to master your machine, and you'll be sure of an enjoyable drive. Choose from Ferrari, Lamborghini and other top-of-the-range cars, all tuned to perfection and fast for the race of your life.
Hot Lap: a very short and intensive race against competitors guided by artificial intelligence, these laps literally take a minute or two and can intoxicate or terrify you!
Superpole: find out where you stand in thecompetition before taking on your rivals.
Hot Stint: a short, intense race that gives you the chance to spend a little extra time in your car, putting it through its paces for maximum performance.
Quick Race: this race lasts around an hour, it's intense but short and will give you an idea of the stamina needed for longer races without the risk of missing dinner!
Sprint Race Weekend: with this race, you can train with time trials and qualifying races, each lasting a maximum of sixty minutes.
Endurance Race Weekend: don't plan anything after this marathon session, as you'll need a nap or two to recover! You'll have the chance to test your mettle with two practice races, three qualifying sessions to hone your skills, then one or two races over one or two days (that's a full 24-hour day) to aim for the title and a place on the podium.
