Wreckfest for PC is a joyful racing game that combines the pleasure of derby, destruction and single-player or multiplayer street racing.

About the game

There's a mix of events in the game, so the player either has to race clean, aiming to be first, or you can play more aggressively, sabotaging your opponent's car by diverting it off the track or throwing it against a wall.

You start the game by choosing your vehicle from a long and comprehensive list that includes CAT earthmovers, Caddies and Chevrolets, a showroom of Fords, Pontiacs, Rovers and VW Beetles among many others. There's even a Volvo bus if size and strength are your thing. You can personalise your bodywork, but don't get too attached to it, because with every race or outing it's bound to need a refresh!

Next, you choose between manual and automatic. Manual mode is ideal if you're a fan of racing simulation games, while automatic mode is best if you're looking for speed and prize-winning destruction without the stress of gear changes and potential stalls holding you back.

Finally, you can choose between dirt and tarmac tracks, of which there are plenty. Various race tracks, rings and motorbike centres await your attention, or you can head out into the countryside in certain regions, bringing a captivating rallying element to your game.

Bonus challenges

Every race has bonus challenges, so even if you don't win - or even if you're not interested in winning at all - you can still rack up points, XP and other rewards if you want to cause as much damage as possible. Some of these challenges are defined quite broadly: "Make a certain number of opponents crash", while others are more specific: "Make a certain number of opponents crash". Spin is defined as forcing your opponent's car into a full 180-degree spin.

Other challenges differ in difficulty depending on the course in which you attempt them. "Finishing off an opponent" is tricky enough in a sprint race but much more achievable in a demolition derby - just look for a player with low HP and deal the fatal blow yourself to win!
