Wasteland 3 on PC takes place, more or less directly, after Wasteland 2, at the end of which the troop of Rangers to which you belong is called upon to help the Patriarch against an unnamed enemy. It's immediately obvious that something has gone wrong, as you've come to exist, somehow separated from your compatriots, with no idea what has happened, and only the knowledge that you must do whatever it takes to survive.
About the game
This game is an RPG with a turn-based mode for the combat scenes. No one will survive for long on their own, so make sure you gather a good team to help you on your missions. Thanks to teamwork, you'll all survive much longer. You can use in-game companions or team up with a real-world friend to play in co-op mode.
The game is set in a dystopian future - something has happened that has turned the world into a frozen wasteland, with Colorado subjected to even more extreme cold and snow than we consider normal today. It's a change from previous games based on the desert and drought in Los Angeles and Arizona, and brings with it a new set of problems for the player character and some excellent new graphics and visuals that make the game interesting and immersive.
A unique view mode
Having an isometric viewpoint sounds like something serious and technical, but it's actually quite simple to understand, especially when you get a more visual representation. It's simply a matter of seeing more than you would in real life, as the perspective is slightly skewed to include more of the scene in the image, rather than perfectly respecting real-life proportions. It's clearer, isn't it?
This mode of view is used in video games - and cartoons and even theatrical performances - because it makes the scene in front of the viewer more compulsive: full of action and clearly visible, as if the world had been compressed slightly to make it more interesting - but not so much that you end up with a naked-eye view of the scene, which would be very distracting!
Things to look out for
The following exclusive features will enhance your gameplay experience: see how many of them you can spot or collect:
Overlook: Stephen King's huge haunted hotel, the Overlook, as seen in The Shining, was based on the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, and that same location has been reused in this game, although hopefully the evil and possessive ghosts (in many senses of the word) have been left between the pages of King's thrilling book.
Two locations: The game's two main locations are the city of Colorado Springs itself, where all the action will take place and where you'll spend much of your game time, and the Ranger base, where you'll have the chance to re-equip and prepare to return to the fray (competition).
Teamwork makes the dream possible: Although the game is largely identical to the previous version, it places a greater emphasis on teamwork, with certain skills based solely on team spirit and requiring training and practice to master.
But once mastered, your whole team will be stronger - or your whole enemy team will be weaker, making it easier to defeat them!
Wasteland 3 for PC is available to buy on Instant Gaming for a fraction of its retail price. You'll receive an official key and will be able to play the game within seconds of purchase. Play smart. Pay less.
