Your team of prisoners gets a new campaign every time the Keeper, the mysterious entity holding you captive, has a mission for you. The campaign is a series of expeditions that will each take you deeper into the heart of a dilapidated research site called the Complex. You'll descend level by level, picking up tools and resources along the way to help you survive in this perilous maze of tunnels where atrocious creatures lurk in every nook and cranny. Complete all these expeditions to succeed in the mission assigned to you and bring the campaign to a close.
Please note: GTFO is not a classic shooter. It is designed for players who enjoy particularly tough challenges!
GTFO is designed for teams of four prisoners who prefer to work together. If you're missing one or two players, bots can take their place: they'll follow you on your expeditions, keep a low profile at the same time as you, collect resources and fight alongside you. While they make an acceptable Plan B, the level of tactical combat and communications in GTFO is such that playing with real people is recommended.
To have any hope of successfully completing the campaign, you need to establish a strategy. Before being dropped into the heart of the complex, your team must decide what equipment, stimulants and weapons to take with them. You'll also need to balance your group and identify the function of each prisoner so as not to be caught off guard if things go wrong. And because it always does...
Avoid waking them up
Coordination and discretion are the watchwords for survival within the complex. Many of GTFO's creatures are in a state of hibernation, but the slightest light, noise or vibration can easily awaken these sleepers... and if one of them knows you're there, they all know! That's usually when things go wrong.
When the Guardian assigns you a mission, a new campaign is established, permanently deleting the previous one. New campaigns will be added regularly throughout the game's lifespan, leading your team to discover new and increasingly macabre forms of suffering...
Will you be able to work together... or will you die together?
