Ivalice, a kingdom ruled by a two-headed lion, blessed by the auspices of the sun and the sacred seal... A year after the defeat of Oldaria in the Fifty Years' War, the king died of illness. With the young Prince Orinus due to ascend the throne at the tender age of two, true power would de facto fall to whomever was appointed as his guardian.
Duke Larg and Duke Goltanna, former generals who had distinguished themselves by their feats of arms during the conflict, were vying for this honour. Tensions were running high between Goltanna, whose emblem was a black lion, and Larg, who bore the coat of arms of a white lion. These events marked the start of what would become known as the Lion War.
At the same time, two young men were about to see their destinies turned upside down. Ramza, the third son of the illustrious Béoulve family of knights, had grown up with his best friend Delita, a young man from the lower classes. Little did they know that they were about to be swept up in the powerful current of historical events...
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles features tactical battles that will keep even the most strategic players on their toes. Turn-based battles take place in isometric 3D zones with varying gradients, and mastery of the positioning of each unit and the order of actions is crucial to victory.
Thanks to the different classes and skills available to the combatants, the possibilities are endless, always opening up new dimensions in game strategy.
Each unit has access to different classes and can assimilate the skills of each of them. By combining the skills acquired with different classes, it is possible to create unique combinations and build your own style of play by combining the strengths of several classes.
The game offers more than 20 classes and hundreds of skills. White mages, black mages, dragon knights and other iconic figures from the Final Fantasy series are all part of the game, and monsters such as chocobos can also be recruited as allies to join the fight.
Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles offers a choice of two independent game modes: the modernised Optimal version and the faithful Classic version.
The optimal version offers enhanced graphics, improved gameplay, a revised interface and many other improvements, as well as full dubbing in Japanese and English. What's more, the game has been fully translated into French and German for the first time, providing a maximum sense of immersion in the rich world of Ivalice. In order to make the game more accessible to new players, the difficulty can now be modified thanks to three game modes. Gameplay and handling have also been improved.
The classic version, meanwhile, offers the chance to play a version that is virtually identical to its original 1997 release, allowing nostalgic players to rediscover the experience of the original game. It also benefits from a Japanese-French translation.
The optimal version of the game is compatible with many controllers.
It is also optimised for keyboard and mouse.
The classic version of the game is only compatible with XInput controllers.
It also has keyboard compatibility, but is not optimised for mouse.
